Profile

Since 2013 Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen has been the director of the Labor für implizites und künstlerisches Wissen (Laboratory of Implicit and Artistic Knowledge) at Zeppelin University. Since 2011 he has been the director of the New Design University in St. Pölten.

After his training at the theater, Stephan Schmidt-Wulffen studied philosophy, theoretical linguistics, and communication aesthetics in Cologne, Konstanz, and Wuppertal (doctorate in Wuppertal in 1987).

From 1992 through 2000 director of the Kunstverein in Hamburg, part-time professor at the Hochschule für bildende Künste in Hamburg, from 2002 through 2011 rector of the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna, lecturer on the "History of Exhibitions". Teaching assignments at universities in Germany and abroad, e.g. at Bard College (NY), at Columbia University.

Member of Academic Supervisory Boards/University Boards: of the Musée d’art moderne Grand Duc Jean/Luxemburg (2000-2009), of the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (since 2004), CCM of Zeppelin University (2008-2013), Kadir Has/Istanbul (since 2009), International Advisory Committee, Unesco - World Conference on Arts Education (since 2009), of the Free University Bozen (since2011). 2008 - 2011 Co-editor of the book series "Exhibition Histories", London/Cologne.

Since the 1980s, Schmidt-Wulffen has been involved in the work of many artists in the form of exhibitions and publications.
