Ranking, accreditation and awards

ZU's attitude towards rankings is simple: Rather than just believe what you read, it's best to come and see for yourself.
However, failing this, you can find out more below about the four rankings in which our Corporate Management & Economics programs have featured to date:

CHE Rankings 2020/2021: Corporate Management & Economics back on top

CHE Rankings 2017/2018

The 2017/2018 CHE (Center for University Development) Rankings saw Zeppelin University (ZU) once again placed among Germany's top 3 colleges and universities in the Economic Sciences bracket.

After our successful showing in 2008, 2011/2012 and 2014/2015, Zeppelin University's bachelor's and master's courses were also ranked among the very best in 2017/2018.

“Being placed in the leading group four times in a row confirms that our Corporate Management & Economics study programs have gained recognition for their continual high quality.”

Prof Dr Insa Sjurts | Former President of Zeppelin University

The CHE Rankings are considered to be among the most comprehensive and detailed college rankings in German-speaking countries. Based on data and opinions provided by around 150,000 students and 9,000 professors, the subjects on offer at German universities and colleges are compared in an annual ranking.

In 2017, the subjects of Business Administration, Law, Social Work, Political Economics, Business Informatics, Industrial Engineering, Commercial Law and Economic Sciences were ranked.

ZU in CHE Rankings 2014/2015

In the 2014/15 CHE (Center for University Development) Rankings, ZU was once again ranked among Germany's best universities and colleges.

ZU's Corporate Management & Economics courses were rated as the best in the country. Most notably, the overall study situation and the workload per subject were rated as outstanding. Apart from this, ZU was rated among the best with regard to the international orientation of its study courses, students graduating within the standard period of study, as well as research funds raised. Additionally, ZU was ranked in the top bracket for the range and quality of its courses on offer, student support, co-operation within the student body, the opportunity to rate lectures, support for studies abroad, support on transition into the employment market, as well as the quality of its lecture rooms.

ZU in CHE Rankings 2011/2012

In the 2011/12 CHE University Rankings, Zeppelin University placed among Germany's top universities and colleges. In the area of Communication & Cultural Management it came 1st (up from 8th the previous year), it came 4th in Politics & Administrative Sciences (5th the previous year), while in the Economic Sciences category it came 6th (15th the year before) nationwide. Thus, all three ZU faculties received equally impressive scores.

The results

Corporate Management & Economics made the biggest jump. It climbed from 15th place in 2008 to 6th place, and thus in the leading group along with the University of Mannheim, TU Munich and WHU Vallendar.

The methodology

In the CHE College Rankings, one third of the subjects are evaluated every year on a rotating basis. This particular year it is the turn of the legal, economic and social sciences as well as media studies, communication studies and social work. It is considered the most comprehensive and detailed ranking of its kind in German-speaking countries and is also being implemented in other countries. More than 300 universities and technical colleges were assessed in the process. Alongside data on the study program, teaching approach, equipment, and research, the ranking also factors in the opinions of more than 250,000 students relating to the study conditions at their university. The weekly newspaper “DIE ZEIT” publishes selected data about the students' evaluations, about research indicators and about the universities' reputations and their facilities in their “ZEIT Studienführer 2011/12” (“ZEIT study guide 2011/12”).

Bachelor's in Corporate Management & Economics in “Handelsblatt Karriere Ranking”

In the Economic Sciences category, Zeppelin University (ZU) is rated among the top ten universities in Germany. In the 2007/2008 “Handelsblatt Karriere” College Rankings, it achieved an eighth place finish in this bracket at the first attempt.

The results

It is ZU's first time to appear in a ranking, and right off the bat it finished among the leaders. Hence the surprise at its performance: ZU came ahead of renowned universities like Frankfurt/Main (9th place), Mannheim (10th place), Munich (11th place), TH Karlsruhe (20th place), and University of Tübingen (25th place). As part of the ranking, universities were evaluated by students, graduates and HR managers in businesses amongst others. The class groups which had been together since the university's foundation year went their separate ways only last fall so there should be even more positive appraisals in the coming years. Better still were the ratings (and therefore the level of satisfaction) of the graduates group and, finally, of the students whose votes earned the university 4th place overall.

The methodology

The ranking is based on a survey of around 50,000 students and graduates from all German universities, as well as HR managers from a thousand large companies. On the scale which runs from 1 (for “very satisfied/very good”) to 6 (for “very unsatisfied/very bad”), criteria such as Teaching, Equipment, Practical Relevance, Job Preparation, and Links to Business were evaluated. On top of this was the positive rating from a college survey on whether students are properly prepared for the working environment.

Top performance in U-Multirank international college rankings

In the new, recently published “U-Multirank” EU college rankings, Zeppelin University (ZU) performed outstandingly. Thus the results of the most recent CHE Rankings were also confirmed on an international level.

In contrast to previous rankings, the new international ranking not only investigates the students' satisfaction with their study conditions, but also the universities' level of efficiency in various other areas. In the U-Multirank, top marks were awarded to ZU in the areas of study and teaching, as well as research.

Among the areas to be rated as “very good” in the bracket for Corporate Management & Economics study programs were the overall quality of the courses and teaching, the students' learning experience, the research orientation of the study programs, the contact between students and academics, and the connection between the courses and the professional world. Third-party fundraising, the performance of PhD students, and classroom equipment were also very highly ranked. Furthermore, ZU was well above average in areas such as the international orientation of its study programs, the publication of papers, library facilities, and third-party funding.
