For many years now, the creative industries have been among the fastest growing sectors of the economy, with increasing numbers of jobs in the fields of culture, media and the arts. Graduates of universities and academies of arts, music, theater and film who want to gain a foothold in the industry are regularly faced with the question of how to productively apply their strengths and skills in organizations and companies, or how to successfully set up their own business. How do ideas become sought-after projects? And how do you make creative ability socially productive? Our Pioneering in Arts, Media & the Creative Industries | AMC master's program aims to provide tailor-made answers to these and similar questions. This is achieved through a strong emphasis on project work. Together with experts from the industry and academia, solutions are developed in seminars, field studies and workshops.

The MA AMC is aimed both at students who understand and wish to reconfigure the classic working methods in the fields of culture and the media, as well as those who want to found companies and develop innovative work models in the non-profit sector, the independent scene or the rapidly growing creative industries. Its interdisciplinary orientation should appeal to future designers, founders and change agents in the fields of culture, media and the creative industries. The goal of the study program is to make cultural and communication theory and curatorial and managerial practices mutually understandable and to start an intentionally constructive dialogue between them.
It is designed to prepare students for socially reflective, artistically inspired and corporately responsible work in the fields of culture, media and the creative industries.

Within these categories, the MA AMC allows students to prioritize topics of their choosing. The study program encourages the sharpening of students' theoretical thinking, the practice of researching specific issues and a cooperative understanding of management and leadership.
An extensive interdisciplinary spectrum of complementary theoretical and practical modules will provide an introduction to current communication strategies, innovative culture and event formats, and branch-specific organizational models, as well as providing theoretical perspectives on the society of the 21st century. Here, there is a particular focus on the consequences of the digital transformation, cultural upheaval and new publics arising as a result of the digitalization process. For this reason, there will be a strong emphasis on participative approaches, in order to cultivate an understanding of planning, management and organization.
Proactive thinking and behavior, and a critical-yet-confident approach are taught and fostered in an inspirational setting distinguished by student initiatives, involvement in social enterprises and civil society, prompt, face-to-face contact with the teachers, work environments such as the artsprogram or the media laboratory, student-led enterprises such a the campus radio station "Welle 20" or student festivals.
Through close cooperation with industry partners (e.g. innovative cultural organizers, communication agencies, museums or local authorities) and the exchange of ideas and opinions with teachers, the MA AMC encourages conceptual, critical and autonomous thinking. A very personal working environment is the stage for the collective development of strategies on how to bring cultural projects and social ideas to market as services or event formats without compromising their theoretical approach.
This environment of “learning outside the box” among students in intimate and inspiring campus buildings provides an ideal framework for personal growth and development.
The MA AMC is a non-consecutive study program. It is particularly geared towards bachelor's graduates from any area of the humanities, social, cultural, media or communication sciences, or those with qualifications in the various artistic disciplines including design and architecture.
Although quite a few courses at ZU are offered in English, it is not possible to complete the AMC degree program entirely in English. Language skills in English are preferred, while German is an absolute necessity. ZU requires very good proficiency in German language on C1 level for all degree-seeking applicants.

Potential areas of employment for MA AMC graduates are media production companies, the music, film or gaming industries and – above all – the entire cultural sector, e.g. festivals, the independent scene, start-ups, planning offices, exhibition companies, art markets, consulting, music and events agencies, concert organizers, project spaces and socio-cultural projects, publishing houses, design offices, and culture and communication departments in companies. However, the cultural, media and creative sector is also a dynamic environment where many new and specialized roles are only now emerging. The study program will also prepare graduates for these kinds of jobs.
In addition, the MA AMC will provide a good foundation for a subsequent doctorate in the cultural or communication sciences thanks to its proportion of theory-oriented modules.
