Immersion Lab

Experience virtual reality, design education

The Immersion Lab at Zeppelin University is an interdisciplinary space for experimental education, creative design and research with immersive technologies. As part of the Endowed Chair of Virtual Reality Systems, it offers students, lecturers and external partners the opportunity to use virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) as an educational and research medium. The focus is not only on the technology, but also on the question of how immersive media can open up new perspectives on education, history, art, the environment and society.

Equipment - technology meets creativity

The Immersion Lab is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure designed for both the development and application of immersive content:

  • VR/AR technology: current technologies such as VR headsets enable interactive experiences in virtual worlds.

  • Workstations for development: High-end workstations provide the necessary software and computing power for creating and editing complex 3D models and VR/AR applications.

  • Areas of creativity: Two playgrounds with floor markings serve as safe spaces for movement and interaction in the virtual environment.

  • 3D production: A 3D printer enables the physical implementation of digital models, while a 3D scanner and a 360° camera support the creation and integration of real objects and environments into virtual scenarios.

This equipment creates the basis for a wide range of projects - from developing your own VR games to designing virtual exhibitions.

The Immersion Lab sees itself as an open place of learning and offers various formats for different target groups:

  • Students: Integration of VR/AR in project work, seminars, and final theses.

  • Lecturers: Advice on the design and implementation of courses with immersive elements.

  • Researchers: Use of the lab for empirical studies and experimental research in the field of immersive media.

  • External partners: Cooperation with schools, museums and companies to develop and implement joint projects.
