TosiT - The Open Societal Innovation Toolbox

Open social innovation (OGI) describes the "adaptation and subsequent sustainable use of suitable business-oriented open innovation approaches to the solution of societal challenges by the state and society" (von Lucke et al. 2012). Modern information and communication technologies (ICT), primarily Internet technologies such as Web 2.0, social media and mobile applications, play a key role as catalysts for (open) innovation processes.

From 2012-2015 a consortium with project partners from Germany, Liechtenstein and Switzerland participated in the "eSociety Bodensee 2020 - Open social innovation in the Lake Constance region" within the framework of the research project sponsored by the International Lake Constance University (IBH). In the center of research was the question of how open innovation can contribute to solving societal challenges in the region of lake Constance.

The TosiT database ( contains systematically recorded (event) formats, methods and tools, such as specific services and applications that enable, promote and accelerate open social innovation. This free database also contains specific application examples. The TosiT database is structured according to the following tools: ideas, problem collection, problem solving, design, innovation management, open data, questions of the future as well as common Web 2.0 and social media applications. In the IBH project "eSociety Bodensee 2020", exemplary projects were also brought together. Since then, it has been continuously maintained by the Zeppelin University and the University of Liechtenstein.
