New publication on Advanced Mobility Services in Federated Data Spaces

12/04/2024

The latest scientific publication entitled "Integrating Advanced Mobility Services in Federated Data Spaces: An Exploration of Organizational Roles" was presented at the International Conference on the Digital Economy (ICDEc) 2024 in Rabat, Morocco, and has now been published in the renowned book series Lecture Notes in Business Information Processing. The research work was the result of an interdisciplinary collaboration between Jens Gessler, Hanspeter Rychlik and Prof. Dr. Wolfgang H. Schulz.

Research focus
The publication presents an innovative framework for Federated Data Spaces (FDS) using the example of Gaia-X 4 Advanced Mobility Services. The aim is to support advanced mobility services and promote the integration of data platforms in the digital economy. Based on two real-world mobility use cases and extensive expert interviews, a total of 32 organizational roles were identified and systematically categorized into eight meta-roles.

This framework provides a pioneering structure for the secure and sovereign use of data in inter-organizational collaboration and makes an important contribution to the goals of the European Gaia-X initiative, which promotes the development of a trustworthy and scalable data infrastructure in Europe.

Relevance of the results
The results of this research not only provide a new theoretical approach to the design of data spaces, but also offer practical solutions to the challenges of digital transformation. The contribution to the further development of data-based mobility services underlines the central role of federated data spaces for the modern economy.
