The Department of Cultural Studies & Communication Studies is characterized by a close link between social science, humanities research traditions and artistic-experimental approaches. Research and teaching deal with profound cultural, media and communication-related transformation processes of the present, which take place in the light of social conflicts, comprehensive digitization, and planetary crises.
Against this backdrop, common focal points and thematic areas are the reshaping of public spheres and mediated communication, changes of social orders and institutional infrastructures, artificial intelligence and the transformation of the human condition, artistic knowledge and new forms of artistic production, as well as new challenges for cultural management and cultural policy.

Our students are part of the Department of Cultural & Communication Studies in the form of the elected Program Representatives
