On behalf of the Leadership Excellence Institute Zeppelin | LEIZ and its new Centre for Leadership and Innovation in Asia | CLIA I have the honour to organize an event at Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen to rekindle the debate about European Perspectives on the Belt andRoad Initiative.
The monumental connectivity project of BRI, or New Silk Road, initiated by # Xi Jinping almost a decade ago, has gained considerable attention both in the developed world and the Global South. However, with the US-Chinese tradewar since 2017, the Coronapandemic since 2020 and the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, we have experienced a paradigmaticshift towards economic and political competition in a global zero-sum game, with the USA and the People’s Republic of China leveraging their respective geopolitical influence in a worldwide contention.
Others, such as the EU, South-East Asia and India come under increasing pressure to choose sides. With this hybrid event we want to facilitate a discussion among Chinese experts and international voices to revisit the topic of European Perspectives on the BRI in light of recent developments to increase mutualunderstanding and reduce systemic myopia.
The event comprises three panel discussions on geopolitics, economic cooperation, and concrete experiences of cooperation, with the goal of identifying cooperationcorridors for the future.
Date/Time: April 19, 2023 (Wednesday), 9:30 am – 12:30 pm (CET)
Venue: Alfred Colsman Forum, Zeppelin University, ZF Campus, Am Fallenbrunnen 3, Friedrichshafen, Germany
The LEIZ in 2020 organized the #TransculturalLeadershipSummit on the topic of the European Perspectives on the New Silk Roads and in 2022 a volume by Josef Wieland, Jessica G. Schwengber and Dr. Matthias Niedenführ 宁洲明 was published on this topic.
