Interview with Prof. Dr. Wieland on the importance of leadership and value orientations

The Leadership Excellence Institute is pleased to present the latest interview with LEIZ Director Prof. Dr. Josef Wieland, who discusses the essential role of leaders in realizing and implementing corporate values. He shares his insights on how leaders can significantly contribute to organizational culture and productivity by embodying these values.


In the interview, Prof. Dr. Wieland emphasizes that the value orientation of companies today is no longer limited to the owner or founder. In modern companies and corporations, it is the responsibility of leaders to actively live and convey these values. He distinguishes between supervisors and true leaders: "Being a boss doesn't mean you're leading people. Leadership means being accepted by those you lead, convincing the team that they truly want to follow you."

Merely communicating values within an organization is not enough, as it is generally clear what certain values mean, but they do not always translate into clear instructions. It is the responsibility of leaders to interpret these values situationally and implement them in practice. Particularly in difficult situations, such as dealing with bribery attempts, a clear value orientation is crucial.


Prof. Dr. Wieland makes it clear that integrating values into corporate culture is a continuous and demanding task. Leaders must not only understand the values but also have the courage and ability to realize them in various contexts. By doing so, they contribute significantly to the stability and reliability within the company and promote a culture of integrity and mutual respect.
