Zeppelin University (ZU) has started the fall semester of 2014 with a record number of more than 300 first semester students. This is now the 23rd year of new students to start at ZU. The number of students enrolled in the bachelor, master, executive master, and doctoral programs thus rises to 1308.
The students were officially welcomed by ZU president Professor Dr Stephan A Jansen with a class on "800 Years of the History of Ideas of the University". This was followed by welcoming speeches by Friedrichshafen´s First Mayor Dr Stefan Köhler, as well as the ZU board members Tim Göbel, Katja Völcker, and Laura Niemann. On behalf of the study programs, Professor Dr Dirk Baecker, Professor Dr Markus Rhomberg, Professor Dr Marcel Tyrell, and Professor Dr Rick Vogel presented the university and their respective study programs.
The official welcome is a part of the orientation week of the new students. For the first semester students, it started with a hiking tour to Salem - to the Monastery and the Palace, and to the Affenberg. The program included - in addition to a first getting to know the structures and offers of ZU - a student organized campus rally, a bicycle tour through Friedrichshafen for new citizens (together with the German Cyclists´ Association) and a day to discover the Lake Constance region, stopping at Burg Meersburg, Schloss Brochenzell, and Mehlsack Ravensburg.
