ZU appoints Prof. Winfried Pohlmeier to Senior Professorship for Computational Statistics

Zeppelin University (ZU) has appointed Professor Dr. Winfried Pohlmeier to the Senior Professorship of Computational Statistics. Pohlmeier held the Chair of Economics and Econometrics at the University of Konstanz from 1994 to 2023 and was most recently a lecturer at the University of Freiburg. At ZU, the empirical economic researcher will continue his research and teaching on machine learning, microeconometrics and financial econometrics.

"In times of ever larger and more complex data sets, machine learning has become an indispensable part of empirical economic research and business practice. I am delighted to be able to contribute my expertise in this pioneering field to the courses offered at Zeppelin University," says Pohlmeier.

Stops at Princeton and Harvard

Winfried Pohlmeier studied economics and political science at the University of Konstanz and Princeton University. He completed his doctorate at the University of Mannheim, followed by a postdoctoral stay as a John F. Kennedy Fellow at Havard University. In 1994, he habilitated at the University of Mannheim and was awarded the venia legendi for economics and econometrics. In the same year, he became Professor of Economics and Econometrics at the University of Konstanz, a position he held until his retirement last spring. Most recently, he was a lecturer at the University of Freiburg. Pohlmeier was editor, publisher and co-editor of several international journals such as the renowned scientific journal Empirical Economics. He is a founding member of the Center for Finance and Econometrics (CoFE) and a Senior Research Fellow at the Rimini Centre for Economic Analysis (RCEA).

To date, our senior professorships have included renowned academics, primarily from the fields of psychology and sociology. We are therefore all the more pleased that with Winfried Pohlmeier we have now been able to recruit an empirical economic researcher for our research and teaching," explains ZU President Professor Dr. Klaus Mühlhahn.
