Friedrichshafen. After the German Science and Humanities Council reaccredited Zeppelin University (ZU) as a university for another five years without any conditions in February, the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research, and the Arts (MWK) has now also extended its state recognition and granted it the right to award doctorates for another five years. This means that ZU is authorized to award doctoral degrees in various disciplines as a university until 2030. The right to award doctorates is also linked to the right to award postdoctoral qualifications. The postdoctoral qualification (“Habilitation”) is the highest academic qualification in the German higher education system.

“We would like to thank the ministry for the trust it has placed in us,” says ZU President Professor Dr. Anja Achtziger, “and we are very pleased that we can continue to contribute to ensuring that doctoral students in Baden-Württemberg receive the highest level of education.” The right to award doctorates is further proof of how valuable ZU is not only for Friedrichshafen as a university location, but also for the state of Baden-Württemberg.

Background: More than 150 doctorates have been completed at ZU to date. There are currently 63 ongoing doctoral procedures. All doctoral candidates at ZU are required to be members of the ZU Graduate School (ZUGS) and participate in the partially structured doctoral program. In addition, doctoral candidates can take advantage of courses offered by cooperating graduate schools at partner universities in Germany and abroad.
