Lionel Njoya studied PAIR at ZU. Thanks to the help of the Talentcenter, he has found his dream job. How? He explains in this interview.

Can you briefly outline your academic background?

Njoya: I did my Master's in Politics, Administration & International Relations (PAIR) at Zeppelin University (ZU). During my studies, I worked as a senator in 2022/23 and gained extensive insights into university processes. I completed my Bachelor's degree in Political Science at the University of Passau, including a semester abroad at Sciences Po near Paris.

How did you find out about the Talent Center?

Njoya: During my time as a senator, I got involved with the Talent Center to increase its visibility for students. Later, a friend drew my attention to the Zutaten recruiting event, which sparked my interest in the offers.

What specific offers did you take advantage of and how did they support you?

Njoya: One offer that helped me in particular was the Self-PR workshop, which took place as a pre-event for ingredients. There I learned how to present myself authentically and convincingly, how to specifically formulate my strengths and how to strategically build up my CV. The voice training and work on non-verbal forms of expression were also valuable.

Shortly afterwards, I was able to apply what I had learned directly: At Zutaten, I conducted job interviews with two large and well-known consulting firms. This resulted in two internship offers - one of which has now led to my permanent position.

How did the Talent Center specifically support you in starting your career?

Njoya : It gave me the right tools - from self-presentation and application techniques to networking with companies. I probably wouldn't have got my job without the ingredients event.

This is also evident in others: Many fellow students have been offered internships or permanent positions through the Talent Center. It's a real springboard for starting a career.

Which methods or tips from the Talent Center helped you in particular during the application process?

Njoya : The technique of preparing for job interviews with specific success stories was particularly valuable. In the self-PR workshop, I learned to work out three concise examples from my life that show my strengths and problem-solving skills. This helped me a lot in the application process.

Would you recommend the Talent Center to other students?

Njoya: Definitely! The workshops provide targeted preparation for professional life, often with top speakers that you wouldn't otherwise be able to attend for free. There is also the large alumni network, which opens many doors. For example, several ZU alumni work in my new company - that shows how valuable these connections are.

Is there anything that could be improved at the Talent Center?

Njoya : The offers should be made even more visible. Many people don't even know what opportunities are available. Alumni success stories could be communicated more - through testimonials, short videos or an ambassador program.

My tip for students: Make active and regular use of the offers. If you have an idea for new workshops, you can simply suggest them - the Talent Center is open to suggestions.

Finally, do you have a message for students who are currently looking for internships or a permanent position?

Njoya : Rejections are part of the process - the key is to keep at it and use your networks. There is a lot of solidarity among ZU students and many alumni are willing to help. Therefore, don't be afraid to write to alumni - even if you don't know them personally or their graduation was years ago. The connection to ZU remains, and it is often precisely these contacts that open new doors. My new supervisor is a ZU alumnus himself - that shows how valuable this network is.

For job interviews, I recommend coming up with two or three concise stories that show how you overcame challenges. Instead of simply saying that you are stress-resistant or solution-oriented, let the story speak for itself. This keeps your problem-solving skills tangible and convincing. And if anyone is interested in public consulting, please feel free to contact me - I'd be happy to help!
