ZU supports nachtsam campaign of the state of Baden-Württemberg

2025-10-10

The State Coordination Centre for Safety in Nightlife Baden-Württemberg (LKS) with the project nachtsam, which is already in its 5th year of implementing training concepts and raising public awareness against sexualized violence in nightlife, is launching a new campaign. The LKS is run by the women's counseling center Frauenhorizonte - gegen sexuelle Gewalt e.V. in Freiburg and is fully funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Social Affairs, Health and Integration.

ASK, INSTEAD OF JUST DOING IT is a direct approach to all those celebrating - with a clear appeal for consensus when celebrating. Obtaining consent before boundaries are crossed, even unintentionally, is what most people want. In this way, a respectful and (n)mindful coexistence can be experienced in nightlife.

"Part of studying is partying and part of partying is treating each other with respect," says Lea Heinrich, Deputy Equal Opportunities Officer at Zeppelin University, "which is why I think it goes without saying that ZU is also taking part in the campaign." Nightlife in Friedrichshafen is hardly comparable to that in big cities. But it would be naïve to believe that the issue is not important in small towns.

The appeals to women to protect themselves and their drinks, to choose a "safe" way home, not to be out alone at night, to have their keys between their fingers, a tear gas in their pocket, a pocket alarm with them and much more have gone on for too long. However, assaults only do not take place if no one is being assaulted. Our messages are clearly aimed at potentially assaulted people and at society as a whole. The responsibility lies here to behave correctly, to maintain boundaries and also to stop acquaintances, friends or strangers who do not do so. Looking away and trivializing give cross-border people space, which in turn limits that of the people affected.

The campaign takes place in 25 urban and rural districts, all of which are part of the nachtsam cooperation network and have nachtsam-trained institutions and festivals on site, in cooperation with local women's counseling centers, equal opportunities officers and a broad network of institutions and universities. This network ensures the broadest possible dissemination in the city and country, on the respective communication channels - from city posters, billboards, newsletters, homepages, social media, ...

The 141 cooperation partners receive locally adapted campaign material (print and digital) from the LKS, which refers in particular to the local advice centers. A total of 5,500 A3 posters, 2,000 A2 posters, 1,750 A1 posters and 42,000 postcards were ordered and will go out to the public in the second week of October. The more than 400 facilities trained by Nachtam will also receive the material.
