The SARS-CoV-2 pandemic poses a threat to health. In the past years, ZU has had to take extensive measures based on the legal pandemic regulations in order to make its contribution to interrupting the chains of infection in the population, to protect the health of members and relatives of the university, and at the same time to ensure the ability to function in all areas of ZU as far as possible.

On 03.04.2022, the legal basis for the continuation of various measures ceased to exist. This is very good news and an important moment for ZU.

Nevertheless, the fight against the pandemic is not over, let alone won. Rather, it means a change of course: Covid-19 is and will remain a disease whose course and consequences are difficult to assess, and which is likely to become part of our everyday life in the long term. It is therefore probably correct that the government's protective regulations and controls should be replaced by voluntary and self-responsible action.

Access and participation restriction, compulsory masks, hygiene guidelines

Elimination of the 3-G-Rule

  • There is no longer an obligation at the ZU to have the 3-G proof ready. Therefore, the entrance checks are no longer required. Nevertheless, we still recommend to get vaccinated or tested regularly.

Prohibition of access and participation

  • In accordance with the currently valid Corona Ordinance of the State of Baden-Württemberg, a ban on entry and participation applies to persons suspected of being infected or who show typical symptoms of an infection with the corona virus, namely odour and taste disorders, fever, cough and sore throat.

No duty to wear masks

  • There is no longer a legal obligation to wear masks at ZU (exception is made for staff, as far as the minimum distance of 1.50 meters between persons present cannot be kept in indoor rooms or if sufficient ventilation is not possible when several persons are present at the same time). However, ZU takes up the appeal of the Ministry of Science (MWK) and strongly recommends all members, relatives and guests to voluntarily wear FFP2 masks (here is a particularly high level of protection) or also medical masks in the indoor rooms; especially in situations where a distance of 1.5 m cannot be maintained.

The abolition of the obligation to wear masks is linked to self-responsibility for oneself and one's fellow human beings. In this respect, we ask all ZU residents and guests to be more considerate and emphatic in dealing with the continuing risks of the pandemic. This includes, for example, to consider individual requests of persons regarding the wearing of masks, who may have manifold personal - especially health-related - reasons for an increased protection in certain situations (e.g. within the course or service facilities of ZU).

Hygiene guidelines

Various hygiene and protection measures are continued (e.g., rules for ventilation, disinfection dispensers, right-hand run recommendations, testing offers for employees).

  • In order to maintain the distance rule, all buildings are required to walk on the right. The one-way route regulations are marked accordingly and must be observed. A maximum of two persons are permitted in the elevators.

  • To maintain the rules of hygiene, it is strongly recommended to wash your hands regularly and thoroughly (at least 20 seconds) with soap and water.

  • The print rooms as well as the public areas (foyer, floors, and intermediate zones) are equipped with disinfectant dispensers or columns for disinfecting the hands. In the classrooms and meeting rooms, disinfectant wipes and disposable gloves are provided for disinfecting furniture (especially table surfaces).
