University Ranking: ZU in Top Position in Business Sciences

In the just published University Ranking 2017/18 of the Centrum für Hochschulentwicklung (CHE), ZU has again reached a top position among German universities. In the bachelor and master programs in business administration and economics, ZU was ranked among the top 3 of all German universities.

"To be ranked four times in a row in a top position confirms the continuing high quality and acceptance of our study programs in business sciences," is how ZU President Professor Dr. Insa Sjurts comments on this success.

The satisfaction with the overall course situation was seen as outstanding. ZU also reached a top position among all German universities regarding the overall course offerings, the support for first semester students, the possible graduation in an appropriate timeframe, as well the academic publications. Additionally, ZU was ranked in the top group of German universities regarding mentoring by professors, international orientation, support in studying abroad and studying generally, quality of seminar rooms, as well as the relevance for the job market and professional application.

"Close mentoring of students and good research results are no contradiction - just the opposite. It pays off that ZU students - both in their studies and in special formats such as the Zeppelin Year and the Humboldt Year - are qualified to such an extent exactly because of the close, individual mentoring, and thus the results of bachelor and master theses can even be published in ranked scientific journals". This is how Professor Dr. Wolfgang H. Schulz, speaker of the Department of Corporate Management & Economics, explains this result.

"From a student perspective, we are thrilled about the once more excellent result in the CHE ranking", Martin Bukies, student Vice President says. "It reflects the high satisfaction with the course situation: not only regarding the high academic quality, but also regarding the high level of support by the university, for example in matters of studying abroad and in the networking with partners from practice".

It is now for the fourth time that the CHE University Ranking has evaluated the ZU programs in business administration and economics. For the first time, this happened in 2008, i.e. just five years after the founding of ZU. At that time, ZU reached a place among the top-ranked 15. In the ranking 2011/2012, ZU improved to the top 10, in the ranking 2014/2015 even among the top 3. In the same year, there was a special ranking of the master program in business administration and economics, and here ZU also reached a place among the top 3.

Every year, the CHE University Ranking evaluates subjects at German universities. This year, the subjects have been business administration, law, social work, economics, business informatics, industrial engineering, business law, and business sciences. It is considered the most comprehensive and most detailed ranking of its kind in German-speaking countries, and has also been applied in other countries. More than 300 universities and universities of applied sciences have been evaluated. In addition to facts on the study program, academic teaching, equipment and research, the ranking also includes comments by students on the course situation at their university.
