Lecture Series, Symposia & Summer Schools

Dream Kill

In order to systematically deal with current issues of the present, the Chair of Art Theory and Curating together with the artsprogram and, since 2016, also with the Chair of Cultural Theory and Analysis, has set an annual theme every year since 2013. Previous themes have been "Ecologies of the Human" (2015/16), "Politics of Simplicity" (2016/17), "Crisis of Reality" (2017/18) "Islands of Freedom" (2018/19), "Economies of Visibility" (2019/2020) or "Apocalypse and World Salvation" (2020/2021). In 2022 the annual theme is "Radical Dreaming".

Following the talk of the "post-factual" age, an interdisciplinary symposium between art and science was held in the autumn (27 & 28 October 2017) on the subject of "Crises of Reality". In addition, a twelve-part public lecture series on key works of art was held in the following semester, hosted by Prof. Dr. Karen van den Berg (Chair of Art Theory and Staging Practice) and Prof. Dr. Jan Söffner (Chair of Cultural Theory and Cultural Analysis).

The symposia and lecture series will be accompanied by art and exhibition projects with an accompanying program in the university's exhibition space, the White Box.
