The Center for Media & Society [Zentrum für Medien & Gesellschaft - ZUMG] dedicates itself to researching the interplay of Media- and Societal Change. Starting with the observation of media communication’s significance for modern societies, the center offers a baseline for a scientific view of the various impacts and interactions of social processes that are handled with and through media. In this interdisciplinary institute, professional expertise and department-specific scientific priorities coexist with one another.

Consequently, the work of the ZUMG focusses on the social and cultural role of media as producer, mediator and agent of societal communication. It’s all about the „and“: Media and politics, media and art, media and culture.
This focus on the „in-between“ has always been a hallmark of the Zeppelin University’s research, as was its claim to unite specialist lines of questioning, thus concerning itself less with disciplines or subjects and more so with the tangible problems of our everyday society. Based on this self-image, the ZUMG serves as a space of building competences for research, teaching and guidance.
